The oldest fields in the Mediterranean begin at the garden wall
In 384 BC, Greek settlers divided the plain below Vrbanj into stone-walled parcels of vines and olives. Those same walls, and many of the same fields, are still worked today — which is why the Stari Grad Plain is protected by UNESCO as one of the oldest continuously cultivated landscapes in the world. The Hideaway sits at its very edge, a one-minute walk from where the parcels begin.
The house itself is Vrbanj through and through: thick Dalmatian stone, restored with care to keep its character while adding everything a modern stay needs. Three floors, each opening onto its own terrace, climb to a summer dining lounge and pool with open views across the plain to Brač island.
This is the other Hvar — lavender fields, olive groves, vineyards and quiet stone villages, twenty minutes but a world away from the bustle of Hvar town.
